Magnolia

Mississippi designated the magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) as the official state flower in 1952. Mississippi's nickname is The Magnolia State and the magnolia is featured on the state quarter shown below (see all 50 state quarters - 50 state flowers - National Flower):
