Tennessee Treasures by Tennessee artist Michael Sloan was adopted as the state painting in 1997. The painting features the ten most recognized symbols of Tennessee: raccoon (state wild animal), mockingbird (state bird), iris (state cultivated flower), passion flower (state wildflower), tulip poplar (state tree), Tennessee river pearl (state gem), lady bug (one of Tennessee's insect symbols), zebra swallowtail (state butterfly), largemouth bass (one of Tennessee's state fish), and limestone (the state rock). |
