Official State Wildflower of Oklahoma
Oklahoma designated the Indian blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) as the official state wildflower in 1986. Oklahoma also recognizes a state floral emblem (adopted 1893) and a state flower (adopted in 2004). All State Flowers
The Indian blanket is a distinctive, colorful grassland wildflower that tolerates Oklahoma's hot, dry weather (a member of the daisy family). Also called firewheel, the Indian blanket flower is a symbol of Oklahoma's scenic beauty as well as the state's Native American heritage.
