Official State Shakespeare Festival of Virginia

The annual "Virginia Shakespeare Festival" held at William & Mary University in Williamsburg was designated the official state Shakespeare Festival of  the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2013. All State Festivals & Events - Arts & Drama Symbols

Senate Bill NO. 1123

WHEREAS, the Virginia Shakespeare Festival (the Festival) is the oldest Shakespeare festival in Virginia celebrating its thirty-fifth season in 2013; and

WHEREAS, the Festival is produced in Williamsburg, Virginia, the location of the first performance of Shakespeare in the New World; and

WHEREAS, the Festival is housed at The College of William and Mary, the second oldest university in America; and

WHEREAS, the Festival has consistently produced excellent educational programs for youth summer camps in addition to providing quality college internships; and

WHEREAS, over its existence, the Festival has served in excess of 300,000 Virginians; now, therefore

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia that § 1-510 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
