Official State Metal of Arizona

Arizona designated copper as the official state metal in 2015. Senator Steve Smith sponsored the bill after being approached by teacher Jennifer Royer and her fourth-grade students as part of an exercise in her civics class at Copper Creek Elementary School in Tucson. All State Rocks & Minerals

The center star on Arizona's flag represents copper production - Arizona produces more copper than any other state in the United States. Copper is also recognized as a symbol of Utah.
