Atlantic Sailfish

Florida designated the Atlantic sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) as the official state saltwater fish in 1975 (Florida's official freshwater fish is the largemouth bass). The magnificent Atlantic sailfish is considered threatened.

Sailfish can reach speeds of sixty miles per hour! The average size of sailfish found in Florida is approximately six to seven feet and thirty to forty-five pounds.
