Tomato juice was designated the official state beverage of Ohio in 1965 (in 2009 Ohio also recognized tomato as the official state fruit). Ohio is one of the top tomato-producing states. All State Foods & Beverages

A.W. Livingston, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio played an important role in popularizing the tomato in the late 1800s by developing larger, sweeter tomato varieties. An annual Tomato Festival held in Reynoldsburg honors Livingston and the tomato’s importance to Ohio’s economy.
