Adopted in 1792, the Kentucky state seal highlights the state motto; "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" (originating from a stanza of a tune popular in 1768; "Liberty Song" by John Dickinson, which proclaimed: "Then join in hand, brave Americans all; by uniting we stand, by dividing we fall.").
