Official State Vegetable of Washington

Washington designated the delicious and distinctive Walla Walla sweet onion as the official state vegetable in 2007. The measure to adopt a state vegetable was the result of a seventh-grade honors social-studies class project at Eatonville Middle School, and previously a project of a Kirkland Junior high school class. All State Foods

Grown properly only in the Walla Walla Valley of Washington, the Walla Walla sweet onion was developed over several generations by meticulous hand-selecting for size, shape, and greater sweetness.
