Milk

Official State Beverage of Oklahoma

Milk was designated the official state beverage of Oklahoma in 1985. Dairy farming is an important part of Oklahoma's agricultural community. Twenty states recognize milk as a state symbol. All State Foods & Beverages

Milk has been called a nearly perfect food (a source of protein, calcium, and several other important nutrients). A single lactating dairy cow can produce up to 8 gallons of milk, consume about 80 pounds of feed, and drink 30 to 40 gallons of water per day.

Hourglass Selenite Crystal

Oklahoma designated the unique hourglass selenite crystal as the official state crystal in 2005 after elementary school students from Bryant and Red Oak School petitioned the state legislature. All State Minerals & Rocks

Hourglass selenite crystals are found only on the salt plains of Oklahoma, a unique 11,000-acre geological area. The salt plains were formed by repeated flooding by sea water millions of years ago.

Honeybee

Oklahoma designated the honeybee (Apis mellifera) as the official state insect in 1992 (Oklahoma also recognized an official state butterfly in 1996). The honeybee is recognized as an official state symbol in twenty states, primarily because honeybees play such an important role in agriculture. Buffalo

Oklahoma designated the buffalo (American bison) as the official state animal 1972. The American bison is also a state symbol of Kansas and Wyoming, and on May 9, 2016 was designated the official mammal symbol of the United States.

Bullfrog

Oklahoma designated the American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus - formerly Rana catesbeiana) as the official state amphibian in 1997 (bullfrog is also the amphibian symbol of Ohio and Missouri.). All State Amphibians

The bullfrog is the largest frog in North America and can be found throughout the state of Oklahoma (although it prefers larger, deeper bodies of water, it can be found in almost every lake, pond, bog, sluggish stream, and even cattle tanks).

White-tailed Deer

The beautiful and graceful white-tailed deer is able to run up to 40 miles per hour, jump 9 foot fences, and swim 13 miles per hour. The white underside of the deer's tail waves when running and is flashed as a warning when danger is sensed.
