New Jersey designated the A.J. Meerwald as the official state tall ship in 1998. All State Ships & Vessels

First launched in 1928, the A.J. Meerwald is a Delaware Bay oyster schooner, a distinct vessel built to meet the needs of the local oyster industry. Now part of the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, New Jersey, who offer unique, hands-on educational sails aboard the schooner.

Connecticut designated the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) as the official state ship in 1983. Built by Connecticut craftsmen and women, the Nautilus was the world's first nuclear-powered submarine. Connecticut also recognizes a state flagship and tall ship ambassador, and a state aircraft.

Launched in 1954 and off on her first tour in 1955 with the historic message: “Underway on nuclear power,” the USS Nautilus logged over half a million nautical miles during her distinguished 25-year career.

The Arkansas Apple Festival is held every year during the first weekend of October in Lincoln, Arkansas. A fun 3-day event for the whole family celebrating the bountiful harvest of apples.

The center piece of the apple festival is the unequaled variety of arts and crafts, featuring works of some of the most talented artisans in the Ozarks. There are activities and contests for kids in a special Kid's World, musical entertainment, gospel singing, and much more. And of course an abundance of apple cider and free apple slices.

Bodie

Official Gold Rush Ghost Town of California

Bodie was designated the official state gold rush ghost town of California in 2002 to acknowledge the importance Bodie played in California's history. California also recognizes an official silver rush ghost town.

The idea for the measure originated from the students and teachers of Lee Vining Junior High School. Bodie is one of the largest and best preserved ghost towns in the west, offering visitors a special insight into the gold rush days.
