Official Flag of The District of Columbia

The flag of the District of Columbia was approved in 1938. The D.C. flag has a beautifully simple design of three red stars above two red bars on a field of white. All State Flags

According to the Office of the Secretary, "It is based on the design of the coat of arms of George Washington, first used to identify the family in the twelfth century, when one of George Washington's ancestors took possession of Washington Old Hall, then in County Durham, northeast England."

Scobey Soil Series

Official State Soil of Montana

Montana designated Scobey soil series as the official state soil in 2015 to recognize the important role soil plays in the economy and environment. All State Soils

Scobey soil was researched and promoted by 4th grade students from Longfellow Elementary School in Bozeman. Scobey is a unique soil that occurs on more than 700,000 acres of north-central Montana and is known to produce wheat of exceptionally high quality.

Cycling

Shelter Dogs & Cats

Official State Pet of Illinois

Illinois designated "shelter dogs and shelter cats that are residing in or have been adopted from a shelter or rescue facility in this State" as the official state pet of the state of Illinois (effective August 25, 2017).

Illinois joins four other states recognizing rescued and shelter pets as official symbols (California, Tennessee, Colorado, and Georgia). All State Dogs & Cats

Denim

Official State Fabric of California

California designated denim as the official state fabric in 2016. All Cultural Heritage Symbols

Excerpt from Assembly Bill No. 501

SECTION 1. The Legislature finds and declares all of the following:

(a) Denim is a sturdy cotton twill fabric. To create denim fabric, horizontal threads pass under two or more vertical threads. However, denim is much more than just a fabric. Denim’s history is interwoven with California history from the 1850s through today.
