Crider Soil Series

Official State Soil of Kentucky

Kentucky designated Crider soil series as the official state soil in 1990. The Crider series was established in Caldwell County, Kentucky, in 1957, and was named after a community in the county. All State Soils

Crider soils make up about 500,000 acres in Kentucky and occur in 35 counties in the state. Most of these acres are used for pasture or crops (primarily corn, small grain, soybeans, tobacco, and hay). Crider soils are highly productive, and many acres of these soils are prime farmland.

".... Whereas, at age 65, Vollis Simpson, a self-taught folk artist, began making giant windmills known as "whirligigs" at his home in Wilson, North Carolina; and

Dublin Peanut Festival

North Carolina designated The Dublin Peanut Festival as the official state peanut festival in 2013. Dublin is called the peanut capital of North Carolina.

Held the third Saturday of September of every year since 1993, the festival includes a scholarship pageant, classic car show, games in the gym, entertainment including bands and solo acts on stage, rides, contests, kiddie and women’s pedal tractor pull, craft and food vendors, fireman competition, peanut bake-off contest, cake walk, t-shirt sales, and PEANUTS.
